Wine Tasting- Beliveau Chardonel

Image
Name: Afternoon Delight Varietal: Blend, mostly Chardonel supported with Vidal Blanc Region: North Fork of Roanoke, Virginia Vintage: 2019 Price: $24.00 Tasting Notes-  A lightly oaked dry white blend that features notes of melon, honeysuckle, kiwi, and white pepper. ( vinoshipper ) Wine Folly : I will be comparing this to Chardonnay as wine folly does not have a designated section for Chardonel; a blend of Chardonnay and Seyval. This was an oak aged Chardonel, however I did not detect much a woody flavor. Yellow apple was definitely noted. Definitely a semi-dry mouth feel but also very refreshing.                                                                                 Review: This was from my winery tour of Beliveau winery here in blacksburg. The full post for the tour will come later. After having a flight of reds, buying this white was definitely a welcome change of pace. I tend to like dryer whites, and while this was designated as semi-sweet, it definitely erred on the dry

Wine Tasting- Bell'Agio Chianti

Image
Name- Bell'Agio  Varietal- 95% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo Nero Region- Tuscany, Italy Vintage- 2020 Price- $11.99 Tasting Notes-  Color: Ruby-red with purple hues. Bouquet: Full and reminiscent of violets. Taste: Dry and smooth with zesty notes of cherry and berry fruit. ( banfiwines ) Wine Folly:  Very dry as it is supposed to be. High acidity and tannins as well, maybe a little thinner bodied than I would have accepted with a wine as dry as this. Definitely got the cherry and plum accents, and maybe I'm tricking myself, but the leather flavor as described on Wine Folly was present, possibly as a result of the high tannins and acidity.                                                                                Review: This is a very interesting wine. I initially had this by itself and it was quite dry. Almost two dry for a Wednesday afternoon. However, once I had paired it with a gourmet Stouffers Chicken Piccata, it certainly supported the wine at least a little bit. This w

Name-  Paul Avril Clos des Papes Chateauneuf-du-Pape Varietal - Rhone blend, 60% Grenache, and supported by Syrah and Mourvedre Region- Southern Rhone Valley, France Vintage- 2006 Price -  $221 Tasting Notes - Complex aromas of cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and smoke enhance this sweet, dense, ripe and harmonious Chateauneuf-du-Pape with a solid underlying structure and finishes with balanced, unaggressive, and ripe tannins. ( Wine.com ) Wine Folly:   Strong presence of black berry, has a an almost sour scent but in a good way. I could be tricking myself here but I also detected lavendar. Has a very warm mouth feel almost                                                                                      like liquor, woody flavors as well.                                                                                                                                                                    Review:  I am honestly not sure what my roommate's mom was thinking with entrus

Wine Tasting- Chateau Morrisette Blend

Image
Name - Our Dog Blue Varietal - Blend, predominantly made with Riesling and fortified with Traminette and Vidal Blanc Region - Floyd, Virginia Vintage - 2021 Price - 9.99 Tasting Notes -  Aroma: Melon, citrus, apricots, flowers. Palate: Sweet, firm acidity. Finish: Soft. Semi-sweet blend of Riesling, Traminette, Vidal Blanc. Serve chilled ( Chateau Morrisette ) Wine Folly : As this blend is predominantly Riesling, I'll be taking my notes from that. This is a rather sweet riesling, definitely forward with the melon with a crisp finish. Got hints of peach and green grapes.                                                                                 Review: Another good wine, I like that this is a local winery too. Some website were saying that this was a desert wine, while the website claimed this was best paired with fish or appetizers. My roommate detected a weird alcohol flavor but that could be due to his plebian taste buds. Either way, I have come to enjoy Rieslings and may
