Wine Tastubg- Villa Doluca Klasik
Name: Villa Doluca Klasik
Varietal: Red Blend (Okuzgozu, Shiraz, and Alicante Bouschet)
Region: Thrace, Turkey
Price: $40 (restaurant price)
Tasting Notes: Öküzgözü grapes from Eastern Anatolia for its unique aroma and fruity attributes, Alicanté grapes yielding easy to drink wines, with its vivid ruby color and Carignan grapes for its fruity flavors and balanced structure. With its fruity, smooth, and complex characteristics Villa Doluca KLASİK Red invokes the aromas of red fruits and spices. (Doluca)
Wine Folly: Though Wine Folly does not have a dedicated page for Okuzgozu, I found a short blog post that talks about the flavors. This was a very fruit forward wine, I could definitely taste plum, pomegranate, as well as a bit of blackberry. Decent acidity and not as dry as other reds. Thats not at a bad thing though. This was a juicy wine with a smooth finish.
Review: My Mom and I went in on this bottle for her birthday dinner. We went to a Turkish restaraunt for it. This wine is fantastic. Very juicy red wine, the blend is great, incredibly smooth finish. Now I'm not sure it is worth the $40 dollar price tag that Sultan Kebab charged, but if you can find it at it's market price (12-20 depending on vintage) get it. I paired this with a sausage kebab platter. Great red, great blend, would absolutely reccomend.
